Stephen S. Hasegawa has many years of experience litigating False Claims Act cases in state and federal courts.

Mr. Hasegawa has represented whistleblowers in cases involving procurement fraud, defense contracting and logistical support, Medicare and Medicaid fraud, tax fraud and unclaimed property. He also represented a whistleblower and several local governments in a case alleging the sale of substandard water distribution parts. That case settled for nearly $60 million and resulted in three important appellate decisions, all in favor of Phillips & Cohen's clients.

Mr. Hasegawa joined Phillips & Cohen after eight years with Irell & Manella LLP in Los Angeles. He litigated numerous securities matters, including matters involving private securities litigation, SEC actions and inquiries, criminal investigations, internal investigations and state securities laws. Mr. Hasegawa's practice also covered a diverse range of commercial disputes, including litigation under the California False Claims Act, entertainment-industry litigation, class actions and cases concerning copyright, trademark, trade secrets and contracts.

Mr. Hasegawa graduated with honors in 1998 from the University of Chicago Law School, where he was Articles Editor of the University of Chicago Legal Forum. He has been named a "Super Lawyers Rising Star" in both northern and southern California.

Mr. Hasegawa serves as Phillips & Cohen LLP's General Counsel.
