Whistleblower attorney John Phillips named to "100 most influential lawyers list"

June 19, 2006 -- The National Law Journal has named whistleblower attorney John R. Phillips, a founding partner of Phillips & Cohen LLP, to its list of the "100 most influential lawyers in America" for the third consecutive time.

Phillips was included on the National Law Journal's list in 1997 and 2000 as well as on the list released today for his and his firm's continous success with representing whistleblowers in qui tam lawsuits brought under the False Claims Act.  He is the only qui tam lawyer on the list.

In deciding whom to include on the list, the National Law Journal said it was "looking for attorneys outside the government with the clout to make big things happen.  We were looking for lawyers who had a national impact in their fields and beyond, especially over the past five years - lawyers who have the power to shape public affairs, launch industries, shake things up and get things done."

The National Law Journal noted that Phillips is a "whistleblower advocate who worked with legislators in 1986 to modernize the False Claims Act."  The publication also said that qui tam lawsuits brought by Phillips and the firm's lawyers on behalf of whistleblowers have returned more than $2 billion to the U.S. Treasury.
