U.S. DOJ statistics on qui tam lawsuits and other False Claims Act cases
(including whistleblower rewards)

Qui tam lawsuits brought under the False Claims Act for fraud against the federal government have returned more than $9.64 billion to the government since Congress amended the False Claims Act in 1986, according to the U.S. Department of Justice. Nearly one-fourth of the qui tam recoveries are due to whistleblower cases brought by Phillips & Cohen LLP and its attorneys.

Recoveries resulting from all qui tam and non-qui tam cases brought under the False Claims Act from 1986 to 2005 total $15 billion. Whistleblower rewards for qui tam cases exceed $1.6 billion.

In fiscal year 2005, qui tam lawsuits resulted in recoveries of $1.1 billion. Whistleblowers received rewards that totaled $108 million.
