WASHINGTON, DC – Whistleblower attorney Mary Louise Cohen, a founding partner of Phillips & Cohen LLP, has been selected for the “Best Lawyers” of Washington, DC, and Baltimore list for 2012 published today.
Cohen was the only lawyer selected for work representing whistleblowers. She was named in the health-care-law category.
She also has been named to Lawdragon’s “500 Leading Lawyers in America” list. Lawdragon has dubbed her “the queen of qui tam.”
Cohen has been a leader in whistleblower cases involving Medicare fraud and other types of healthcare fraud for more than 20 years. A “qui tam” (whistleblower) lawsuit she brought against Quest Diagnostics settled for $302 million and set a record for the largest healthcare fraud settlement ever in a medical device case.
Cohen was lead attorney for a whistleblower case against TAP Pharmaceutical Products Inc. that was a driving force in the $875 million settlement. And she was on the legal team that pursued two major landmark cases against the HCA hospital chain for Medicare “cost report” fraud, which were the major components of an $881 million settlement.
